Beef Fricassee

4 tablespoons cooking oil or butter
1 lb leftover roast beef, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 large onion, finely chopped
4 large potatoes, diced into 1/2 inch cubes
1 teaspoon savory
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 cup beef broth

Heat oil or butter in a large saucepan, then stir-fry onions and potatoes over medium heat for 10 minutes. Combine remaining ingredients then pour over frying pan contents, adding more water if necessary to barely cover contents. Bring to boil then cover and cook over medium heat for 30 minutes or until potatoes are well done.
