To make the cake: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a saucepan, melt butter then add cocoa, oil and water and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and pour over flour and sugar. Add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and soda. Mix well with a beater. Pour into a greased pan and bake for 20 mins or until a tooth pick is inserted and remove clean. To make the frosting: In a saucepan, melt butter then add cocoa and buttermilk. Bring to a boil then remove from heat. Pour into a bowl then add 1 1/2 box powdered sugar and vanilla and mix well with a beater. If the frosting is still runny then add more powdered sugar. Once the frosting is cool, spread on cooled cake.
Use 10" x 13" pan or 2 - 9" round spring form pans. |
